What are Dental Implants? Are Dental Implants Right for Me?

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a solution for replacing missing teeth often recommended by your emergency dentist Central Coast. They are artificial tooth roots that serve as replacements for natural teeth. Dental implants are made of titanium, which is one of the most common metals used in medicine since it is biocompatible—that is to say it causes no adverse reactions when in contact with living tissue. Dental implant surgery involves placing a metal post within your jawbone where your tooth would normally reside. The implant serves as the base for an artificial tooth (or teeth). Once you and your dentist agree that it has healed sufficiently, he or she will secure and cap the implant and place crowns (or false teeth) over top to complete the procedure.

When do dental implants make the most sense?

If you have a few or even one missing tooth, dental implants can be a great solution to restore your mouth into its original health and aesthetics. Missing teeth can cause damage to surrounding teeth as well as shifting of those that remain in the mouth. This is because a gap left by a missing tooth creates an imbalance within the jawbone, which fluctuates the natural positioning of the surrounding teeth. With dental implants, this issue is eliminated completely so there is no worry about damage from shifting teeth, gum disease from loss of occlusion (the fit between your upper and lower teeth) or other similar concerns related to not having any teeth.

Where should I go for my dental implant procedure?

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jawbone to hold a dental restoration, most commonly referred to as a crown. Dental implants are recommended for patients suffering from permanent tooth loss. When missing teeth leave too large of a gap in the mouth, the surrounding teeth can drift out of position and cause problems such as shifting or damage that will need to be addressed at your next visit with dental clinic. Implants become part of your bone and gum tissue and require only normal oral hygiene maintenance like brushing and flossing.

Here you can read about what happens during the procedure, what to expect afterwards and how we help our patients feel comfortable while undergoing a dental implant procedure.

What happens during a dental implant consultation?

One of the first steps for new patients is to schedule a consultation with Dr Stephan or Dr Namita at dentist Central Coast. At this visit, we will discuss your dental health history and determine if you are a good candidate for implants. In most cases, an x-ray must be taken of the jawbone to see how much bone is available for placement of the implant(s). While some patients may need more than one tooth replaced, many just require a single implant! Dr Stephan will go over all options and help find the treatment that best meets your needs and budget.

What happens during a dental implant procedure?

All dental implants require an appointment for Dr Stephan to place the post, which is then attached to the abutment and screwed into the implant fixture. Finally, the crown is created and cemented onto the top of your new tooth! You will first receive topical anesthesia and then we will use hand pieces and small instruments to drill into the jawbone where we will place the titanium post (also called an implant fixture). Once it has fused with your jawbone, you can replace missing teeth with confidence knowing they won't shift or fall out over time!

How do dental implants feel?

With the latest advancements in technology, the process of getting dental implants is more comfortable than ever before. Many patients tell us that they felt no pain during or after their procedure! With the anesthesia provided, most people go right back to work after leaving our office and can eat whatever foods they wish without consequences.

After your dental implant is placed...

After Dr Stephan places a dental implant, it is critical to follow the instructions provided so that you can protect your investment. You should avoid chewing directly on the implant itself until enough time has passed for it to fully attach to your jawbone. Dr Stephan will provide any special instructions for post-procedure care, including medications that must be taken and how long to wear a temporary prosthesis while waiting for your natural teeth or permanent crowns to be created.

What are dental implants used for?

Having dental implants makes it possible to replace missing teeth with confidence knowing they won't shift or fall out over time. Dentures are popular, but not everyone sees them as a permanent solution for tooth replacement. Dental implants permanently fuse to your jawbone and require only normal oral hygiene care. This is great news for many patients who have found problems with their denture adhesives coming apart!

Dental implants can also be used to secure full-arch bridges that span the entire length of the dental arch so you don't have to worry about loosing any teeth! If you are missing multiple teeth, consider dental implant supported dentures, which securely attaches your new false teeth to the implant fixtures!

What is included in the dental implant cost?

The great news about dental implants is that they are "permanent" and don't require replacement over time, meaning your initial investment will last for years! The dentist price does vary depending on the complexity of the case and number of teeth to be replaced. We offer a free consultation so you can learn more about your options before making any decisions. To get started today, call +61 2 4306 7467 or click dentist Gosford.

What does the dental implant process involve?

The first step is to come in for a consultation with our dentists, where you will discuss your desires and expectations. Dr Stephan can then provide you with an estimate of what your dental implant cost will be so that you can make an informed decision before proceeding with treatment.
